Next Sunday come to St. Julie Billiart to meet Josh Richter who will be joining the Franciscan community this month and Uriel Santos, our seminarian, who leaves for Mt. St. Mary’s Seminary later this month. Come for coffee & donuts from 10:30-11:30. Both Josh and Uriel will be there as well.
The Church honors beautiful feasts during the month of August. The Transfiguration of Christ, celebrated on August 6, reminds us of Jesus’s power to make all things new. August 14 is the memorial for St. Maximilian Kolbe who had a beautiful devotion to Our Blessed Mother and who received from her a white crown of purity and a red crown of martyrdom, sacrificing himself in place of another prisoner at Auschwitz. Wednesday, August 15 we celebrate the Assumption of Mary body and soul into heaven. It reminds us of our eternal destiny should we persevere to the end. It is a holy day of obligation – see the St. Joseph page for the Mass schedule for our pastoral region.
On Monday our pastoral region youth ministry is hosting a bowling night at Fairfield Lanes beginning at 6pm. On Tuesday (first Tuesday of the month) a Holy Hour with confessions will be at St. Joseph from 7-8pm. There will also be a Holy Hour with confessions at St. Joseph on Tuesday, August 28, the eve of a memorial for St. John the Baptist. On Wednesday at 4pm is a training for altar servers who will help during Masses at St. Julie Billiart.
Over the next five Sundays Jesus continues to speak to us about the Bread of Life, the Bread come down from heaven. It has been very much an anchor in my life and his words still ring true in my heart.
What a joy to know, love, and serve the good God.
