This time each year marks the anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision and legal abortion in the U.S. Monday (Jan. 22) is a day of prayer and penance for protection of the unborn (and for healing). As a penance, I encourage you to fast as you would on Ash Wednesday or Good Friday. Prayer and penance are essential – our strength is from the Lord – however, this year we can also advocate with our elected representatives. The U.S. House of Representatives has passed the Pain-Capable Child Protection Act. We can contact our U.S. Senators asking them to support the bill. Each year is the March for Life in Washington D.C. (Friday, Jan. 19) where hundreds of thousands of people – many young – present themselves as a visible sign that those young lives matter. Here in Butler county there is a march around the Hamilton courthouse Monday at 7pm. We remember that life is a gift from God and that God heals and restores life.
We are excited for the school open houses next weekend as we kick off Catholic Schools week!
St. Julie Billiart will be training new ministers to help at Mass – lectors and extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion. If you are led to serve in this way or if you began attending St. Julie’s when the Mass schedule changed and would like to serve, contact Mary Richter.
I will not be available the week of January 29-February 4, as I will be making an annual retreat.
The Lord lifts up the lowly. What a joy to know, love, and serve the good God.
